The Treasure Valley is a region that is proud of its citizens, businesses, recreation, culture, and unique beauty. All of these qualities come together to separate the Treasure Valley from many parts of the country and make this area a special place to live.
And the secret is out! Idaho is the third fastest growing state in the United States with the Treasure Valley at the forefront. Every one of the region’s cities have witnessed unprecedented growth in both population and commerce over recent years. With the influx of new residents and business, and the national awareness of our beautiful Treasure Valley, comes the responsibility of sustaining our quality of life.
As a result, the Treasure Valley Air Quality Council was formed through the Treasure Valley and Regional Air Quality Act “to protect, preserve and, where necessary, improve the quality of the air in the Treasure Valley while accommodating private, public and commercial interests.” Over the past seven months the council, appointed by former governor and current U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne, has analyzed air quality concerns and control measures for the Treasure Valley.
The council is now asking for your help. As mandated by the Idaho legislature, the council is forming a Citizens Committee to assist with establishing an air quality plan to be presented to lawmakers during the 2007 Idaho legislative session. The council would like to extend a personal invitation to you to be a part of this Citizens Committee.
As a committee member, you would assist the council in gauging public input on the issue of air quality and contribute to the air quality plan that will shape the future of the Treasure Valley and its residents. The council will host an introductory meeting for all Treasure Valley residents interested in serving on the Citizens Committee Thursday, July 13, 2006, at the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) offices (800 S. Industry Way/Ste. 100, Meridian, behind Home Depot) beginning at 6 p.m.
If interested, you are invited to attend this meeting to learn more about serving on the Citizens Committee. Or if you are not able to attend email us at info@treasurevalleyair.org.
With optimism for the future and our warmest personal regards,
Pete O’Neill, Chairman, Treasure Valley Air Quality Council
